Rome celebrates its birthday anniversary every year on the 21st April. According to legend, narrated by Marcus Terentius Varro, a Roman scholar, two orphaned twins named Romulus and Remus, who were suckled by a wolf, founded the city of Rome on the 21st April, 753 BC. Lots of activities are planned over the birthday weekend closest to April 21st. During the weekend extravaganza, Rome comes alive with concerts, parades and re-enactments of historic events. This year they include the exhibition "Constructions And Buildings In Ancient Rome During The Reign Of Emperor Trajan", a re-enactment of "The Conquest Of Dacia" and the laying of a laurel wreath at the Statue Of Trajan. Most of the celebrations take place at Circus Maximus and on Via Dei Fori Imperiali, near the Roman Forum. Around the Colosseum there will also be gladiator displays and fireworks.
