The Japanese House. Architecture And Life After 1945 exhibition continues at the MAXXI Museum until the 26th February 2017. Between tradition and innovation the architecture of the Japanese house recounts an entire culture. Co-produced by the Japan Foundation, (Tokyo), National Museum Of Modern Art (Tokyo), MAXXI (Rome) and the Barbican Centre (London), this exhibition describes the importance of house design in Japan through the work of maestros, such as Kenzo Tange, Toyo Ito, Kazuyo Sejima and Shigeru Ban. The exhibition presents the essential aspects of the Japanese house, revealing the expressive richness of the designs and their capacity for creating an unexpected harmony between man, building and context. Drawings, models, period and contemporary photographs, videos, interviews, film clips, mangas and works by artists make up this exciting exhibition.


Opening hours: Tuesdays to Fridays and Sundays from 11:00am to 7:00pm, Saturdays from 11:00am to 10:00pm (closed on Mondays). Tickets: 12 Euros. Last entrance is one hour before closing time.
