Although 'born' as Barbara Millicent Robert over 50 years ago, she is better known as just Barbie by the millions of young girls who own or have owned and played with this toy doll. However, now aged 56, Barbie is more than just a doll, as she has become a global icon; breaking down every cultural, social, linguistic and anthropological barrier. The Complesso del Vittoriano in Rome has decided to dedicate an exhibition to this iconic toy which has been entitled 'Barbie The Icon'. The exhibition takes place until the 30th October 2016 and comprises of 5 sections:



  • Simply Barbie: contains 8 iconic dolls as well as representative pieces for each decade from 1959 to the present time

  • From Teenage Fashion Model Doll To Fashionista: as a fashionable doll, this section is dedicated to a key aspect of Barbie's life, i.e. fashion

  • I Can Be. Barbie Careers: exhibits the impressive collection of international careers Barbie has so far had and how she has inspired and encouraged generations of girls

  • Barbie's Family: representing her family and friends, this section also hosts a reconstruction of Barbie's house, where children can enter and explore the rooms where Barbie lives

  • Travelling Barbie: a section that pays tribute to Barbie's quest to create a link between different cultures and ethnicities throughout the world

  • Barbie Divas: the final section tells how over time Barbie has identified and compared herself with many of the heroines of her day


Opening times: Monday - Thursday: 9:30am to 7:30pm / Friday and Saturday: 9:30am to 11:30pm / Sunday: 9:30am to 8:30pm / Tickets: 10-12 Euros.
